YCAC vs Mandara, Sunday 16th of Sept 2012

IT’S ALL ABOUT STAMINA

THE MATCH
YC&AC’s stamina was tested in a solid, but flattering, 54-14 win over Mandara in our opening 2012 TCE match in Ebina. Thirty minutes into the first half, and leading 21-0, YC&AC suddenly ran out of steam in the face of some fine Mandara fighting spirit, conceding two soft tries and crawling to the halftime huddle ahead just 21-14. Mother Nature came to the rescue in the second half as the sun went back into hiding, the rain pelted down and the wind helped YC&AC pin the oppo in their own half.
Watching the video(you’ll get to see it too), it’s obvious that six or so players with their fitness and skill, saved the day – the rest probably have the skill but with poor stamina their contribution is not what it should be. Fortunately we have time and two matches to raise fitness levels before our next TCE match in Sapporo on Oct 14th.
Tries: Arts, George, Brimman, Amosa, Griffo, Ryosuke, Luke(2).
Conversions: Troy(6), Kaz(1)

THE POST MATCH
Thankfully there’s no video of the post match – an 11am kickoff meant we were on the train with brewskies in hand by 2pm and on the lash in Shinjuku by 3pm. Memorable post dinner speeches at Tengu were given by Nike the “Grim Weeper” and Amosa the “Gentle Train”. Some discovered their stamina late in the day at the 300yen per beer standee where the bill(divided by 8) was over 30,000yen. The problem with supreme stamina is that you’re often left with either an exhausted woman or a bag of dirty rugby jerseys to haul home – and so it was that Nike and I decided to “Junken Po” on washing duties, he was in no condition to coordinate his fingers and his rock was wrapped in paper quick smart.
Nike sent me the following message just this morning.
“…do you remember the night of sunday. I am not sure, after a couple of beer outside with you I went shinjuku station before 11pm, but I missed my station 4times (2 round trip), at last I was down in front of Seijo-gakuen station. I was lucky not lost our jerseys. I went home at 6am.”

Naturally, Nike played in another rugby match on Monday morning – he gives that word “stamina” new meaning.
