Sunday 25 November 2001

The tens two days before took a toll on the squads for the day’s fixtures, with 4 players dropping out and others carrying knocks. However, the Gents still toughed out a good 45-24 win over London Japanese, with Mike King winning MOTM for his try-scoring cameo.
Five of the Gents then stayed on the field for the first XV fixture against Tokyo Gaijin (and two of them had played in the 10s too!) – well done to Sandy, Oz, Max, Benn & Al for their iron man performances. The whole side played exceptionally well, with the forwards winning tons of good quality ball (Terry took 3 scrums against the head and Arthur was great in the lineout) and driving & recycling well, and the backs making full use of it. The Kiwi foursome at 6, 7, 8 & 9 scored 8 of our 10 tries (James – 5, Doogs, Al & Dave 1 each) with Oz collecting the other 2. Oz kicked 2 conversions and Rich Freeman 4 to make the final score 62 – 7. Man of the match was Rich Freeman for his control of the back line and a great kicking game. James & Arthur were 2 & 3 in the voting.
