Sunday 21 October – 2001

We had 2 cracking games. The Gents XV took on Donkeys RFC – a welcome arrival on out fixture list – and hung tough for a nail-biting 12-10 win.

Fortunately the first XV didn’t need kicking superiority to get the win – James Lovegrove missed 6 from 8 conversions but made up for that with a storming display in all other phases, scoring 4 tries and winning the man of the match award. The final score was 56-0 which reflects a very good YCAC performance as much as it does underpowered opposition. The forward play was outstanding both in first phase and in the lose and the backs tackled and attacked well. Tim White, Rob Jee & Gareth Hayward deserve special mention, and it was good to see Max Koh back in action. As well as James’ four tries, Tim & Doogs got two each and Go Kawai and Gareth one.
