Sunday 17 November

A Gents’ team with a wealth of experience (Rhino, Jamieson, Sizemore, Hoskins, Kiggell and a welcome return to the pitch for Amos Baily) seasoned with a couple of new faces scored a scrappy but ultimately comfortable win over AJJ. Early tries from the two flyers (Hoskins & Kiggell) and utter dominance in the tight fueled a relaxed attitude to tackling and support play that let the opposition within one score straight after halftime.
We turned the pressure on again after that and finished winners 36-17 with two tries from Al Ferris, one from Rhino and one from man-of-the-match Kingdom Mugadza – he had a good game in the #9 shirt but will have to improve his drinking before next weekend.
The first team was fortified this week by the return of the half marathon splinter faction- James Rogers, Arthur G-D-C, Terry Brink, Rob Evans and Matt Burgess. The game was refreshingly up tempo, andÁÁwe applied considerable early pressure. Much to our chagrin, a push over try was disallowed as James “the Peacock” Roger was penalized for pulling out early. Queel drew first blood on a fluky try. Winger Will Martin’s try leveled the score at 5. Man of the Match incumbent, Robbie Grant, had to go off at the half for burns sustained at the previous nights Sports Ball.
Yoshi Amano opened the scoring in the second half. He along with Terry Brink dominated the loose. Rob Evans, Kevin “Chilli Bin” Rideout and Bollocks all scored tries. Final score YCAC 29 Queel 5.
Terry Brink received Man of the Match honors for the 1st XV and he too will have to improve his drink selection for next weekend.
