Sunday 15 December

The Gents and Acorn 2XV played an exciting match that featured (at least) five lead changes. Mark Tudor, despite being somewhat distraught because Fraser wasn’t around to lend him some styling gel, opened the scoring for the Gents with a lovely kick ahead and beat his man to the ball. In the second half, after Acorn scored to regain the lead, Luke “Raging Bull” Ramoe burst through the line and touched down carrying several would be tacklers with him.
Acorn once again took the lead and with under one minute remaining Simon “Too close to Christmas” Ryan (playing himself into shape before the Ryan family NZ Christmas 10’s tourney) took matters into his own hands, scoring the try to bring the Gents within two points and kicked the conversion to tie the game at 22-22. On the day, Rhino kicked 2-3 conversions and slotted one penalty kick. Luke Ramoe was the Man of the Match.

Despite taking the field without a handful of key players, the 1XV was determined to close out the first half of the season on a winning note. And in fact, the YCAC juggernaught rolled on! Paddy Maloney scored off of a rolling maul to put the YCAC up 5-0. Simon “Really guys, too close to Christmas” Ryan, called back into duty as an emergency substitute at #10, scored the next two YCAC tries to put the score at 22-0 at the half. The line outs were once again dominated by Robbie “Pube” Grant and Arthur “Un minute s’il vous plait” GDC, who had a special guest on the sideline to impress.
Throughout the day the men in blue used big drives and rolling mauls to create opportunities, unfortunately the Ref didn’t appear to be watching the same game and Acorn played most of the match from an offside position. In the second half Yoshi “Malts” Amano and Luke Ramoe each touched down once. Final score YCAC 31 Acorn 7. Hooker Go “Stay” Kawai was a well deserved Man of the Match. Iron man awards to Nick Dreves, Luke, Kuri and Rhino who each played more than one match.
