Sat 8 Nov – Zenkai Beers

YCAC Gents 67 Zenkai Beers 5
Tries: Go Ito (2), James Robertson (2), Chris Osborn (2), Kuri, Dai Okada, Erich Friess, Morgan and Sushi.
Cons : Chris Osborn (6) .

It was the biggest they had seen in Japan, it was the longest they had seen in Japan. And it was chopped off by a gleaful Japanese man with two teenage daughters. We all knew Rhino had it coming : we just assumed that it would be a different appendage. Sunday’s Remembrance Day was observed by billions throughout the World and we had our own minute’s silence at Yamate for Rhino’s appendix. In its honour, the boys were inspired and racked up a record score against the valiant Zenkai Beers.
YCAC immediately assumed forward domination. It was a pleasure to see the return of Michael “the Bull” Brooke. Whether it is “Bull Market Brookie” (tenth job in 5 years and yet another upgrade to bonus and Porsche) or “Red Bull Brookie” (rumours have it that he now has wings) the slim-line Bull was even more forceful than ever : destroying his Japanese counterpart in the tight and turning up at ruck and maul like the teenage Brookie of years gone by. Daddy and Daddy-to-be controlled the line-out. Ben is so confident his kid will be “hard”, he has named him Maximus. On that principal, Gareth will be naming his son Yoko. And the backs were in superdrive. Dougs may have his bicycle, but his kid brother borrowed Brookie’s turbo-charged Porche as he roared over the line for 2 tries from his own half. Go Ito is also back to his best : two tries for the speedster on the wing. Chris Osborne reaped the benefits of pre-season training and added two tries to his six conversions. Sushi was wondering when he would score his first try for the YCAC. We were wondering as well, when with ball in hand, on the 10m line faced with one defender, Sushi didn’t look like he wanted to run, nor did the defender look like he wanted to tackle. The net result was a forward pass or knock on, however Sushi did manage to touch one down later in the match. Kuri, Dai, Erich (beneficiary of a 30m rolling maul), and Morgan Parker (on his debut) also crossed the line for tries.
