Friday 23 November 2001 – YCAC 10s

The 6th annual YCAC 10s was switched from March to November and we were rewarded with great weather, 8 enthusiastic sides and our first title. We blew past Matsudo club in the first round, and then played a blinder to beat Mitaka (who had already knocked out Gaijin) in the second round. Everyone chipped in with aggressive tackling and strong running, but Malcolm’s outrageous dummy leading to a try under the posts was the standout moment.
In the final against a strong Acorn side, we scored straight from the kick-off and again soon after to open a 10-0 lead, but then played the next 10 minutes on the back foot and were down 12-10 with 2 minutes to play. Go fought through their defense one last time, though, and Nick converted to seal a 17-12 win.
Congratulations on a great performance and a deserved win to the squad of Sumo, Terry Dixon, Ben Kiggell, Sandy Rose, Renaud Biscarrat, Rob Jee, Doogs, Malcolm Barnett, Go Ito, Nick Bartelot & Benn Shepherd.
