Other Tours
March 1999 – Vietnam
Many of the boys still suffer flashbacks and post tour-matic stress disorder after their stint in ‘nam. Not as much as the locals who entertained them, though.
May 1998 – Peru, Chile, Brazil
Fat rugby players. Thin air. Bad combination. Great trip, though
March 1997 – Manila 10s, Boracay & HK 7s
Title winners again. They love us down there.
March 1996 – Manila 10s & Boracay & HK 7s
Retained the title.
March 1995 – Manila 10s & HK 7s
For our first visit to the Philippines (as the Tokyo BaBas) we were seeded 16th. Out of 16 teams. Undetered we managed three wins from three on day 1 to leave ourselves well positioned for the knockout competition on day 2. Our quarter-final oppo, the Camden Rams, had looked tough on Saturday, but had clearly partied as hard as they had played that day, and were not on good form. The semis were no problem, and we ended up facing the hosts – the Manilla Nomads in the final. A stunning interception from Fuk Ping (soon afterwards to play for the HK 7s team) and a man-of-the-tournament performance from Phil Drury were enough to wrap up the game and our first title.
