8 Feb – YCAC First XV 19, Blues 39

Tries: Rideout, Jamieson, Jones. Con: Jamieson (2)

Captain Courageous, Captain Morgan and even Captain Kangaroo have a reasonable ring to them. Captain Gout, however, does not. Erich was Captain Gout on Saturday and spent the match uncomfortably limping up and down the sideline as Fraser, Tom Jones and Tiffany galloped around the pitch like Sea Biscuit. The front row would have dampened the knickers of many a plump English lass – pasty white and 100% hyphenated British Beef: Tross-Youle, Bohan-Pitt and Posh-Brooke led the charge from upfront!
The Blues opened the scoring, however minutes later Kevin “Crazy” Rideout shot through a hole faster than a man fleeing the scene of the crime, to level the score at 5 a piece. Fraser slotted the conversion by perfectly gauging a tricky wind. In a see-saw battle, the Blues scored twice more followed by Fraser touching down in the corner, followed by another expert conversion. Not since the days of Rich Freeman has the YCAC seen such deadly accuracy. (Fraser was perhaps long on his own points for a change).
At the half, YCAC trailed 14-15. The Blues scored first in the second half as well, but Tom “Jackass” Jones had a storming try to once again close the gap. The boys had their hands full containing the Blues rampaging loose forwards (especially the large Islander from Daito-Bunka Univ.). Prince James Robertson made several head on stops (or slow downs) despite yielding about 40kg to the big chap. Dougal “Quiet Night” Robertson wasn’t there to encourage his lil bro, as he was sleeping off a big Waitangi day celebration (where he put his sore groin through the paces on the dance floor). The Blues ran in three late tries and gave cause for us to sing the blues.
