25 Jan – YCAC Gents XV 34, London Japanese 57 & YCAC First XV 60, Tokyo Gaijin 7

Several new Gents recruits look to be diamonds in the rough and a promising opening try by the Gents positioned them to ring in the new year with their third straight victory. However, sparkling backline play early on gave way to broken tackles and missed opportunities. Clearly the boys knew where the try line was, but couldn’t cross it. After Lindsey’s motivational speech last weekend, several of the Brits on the team went to the embassy to see if the speech had been posted on the wall as inspiration to all- sadly it hadn’t. Ultimately, the see saw battle was won by the London Japanese. On the sideline, the Vicar’s leather clad acolyte shivered with anticipation of what would come later that night….
Tries: Adam Gravseth, Kuri, Blake Harrop, Al Ferris, Chris Osborn. Cons: Lindsey Arrand (1), Chris Osborn (2). Pen: Chris Osborn (1)

With the all vengeance of the Maori going to Moriori BBQ or an Aussie trying to settle his karaoke bill, the YCAC 1XV put it to the Gaijin. As it happened to be Australia Day, the Kiwis rose to the occasion – Dougal “Little Drummer Boy” Robertson and his brother, Prince James, scored 4 and 2 tries respectively. With the Gaijin’s track record, Dougal wasn’t taking any chances. Jameo “Bogen” Rogers and Gareth each touched down once. Had it not been for Go and Luke, the Kiwis would have scored all our tries. Well done lads! We also need to mention that Dougal won his first ever Man of the Match down down – what were the Gaijin thinking!.
Tries: Dougal Robertson (4), James Robertson (2), James Rogers, Gareth Hayworth, Go Kawai, Luke Raimo. Cons: Chris Osborn (5)
