14 Feb – YCAC Gents XV 10, Crusaders 17 & YCAC First XV 17, Crusaders 0

Tries: James Robertson, Yoshi Amano, Riki Nakamura Cons: Fraser Jamieson 1

Love was in the air in Yamate, as wives, partners, significant others, girlfriends, groupies and fan clubs turned up to watch their men in action vs the Cru. It didn’t take long for the Vicar to caution Neil “Teflon” Smith and Andy “Raging bull” Bachtier. Terry “the fairy” Dixon was happy that he wasn’t “involved” to turn this into a threesome. With Brookie’s whereabouts unknown and Tross-Youle back home in England, Sizemore had to step in and do the spanking this week. What should have been a lopsided affair was kept close by spilled ball and missed tackles. Chris “Sayonara” Osborn and Niall “Love DR.” Jefferson nearly combined on a last gasp try, but time ran out for the boys. Tries: Masa Ishida, Adam Gravseth

The YCAC got of to a brilliant start as Chris McWilliam popped a short pass to Maui in midfield, who ran through the Cru backline, only to scissor with Prince James Robertson 10m from the goal posts. Fraser “He can’t miss ’em all” Jamieson notched the conversion. YCAC 7-0. A mighty wind was blowing the lads, but the Sapporo Snake wasn’t enjoying his run out with the Cru. The YCAC backs tightened around the Cru standoff like a vice and didn’t give him much room to operate. Maui “The Hitman” Magele put in a few of his “I’ll bet you’ll remember me” tackles and Rob “the kissing bandit” Jee put in a few big smacks of his own both during and after the match. In the first half, the Cru rarely crossed the midfield line, but managed to keep the score line close. In the second half Yoshi “Malts” Amano bounced off most of the Cru players to increase the margin to 12-0. Smart, aggressive and tight play (not to mention devastating scrummaging) kept a tremendous amount of pressure on the Cru. We got out of jail a couple of times as Cru penalty kicks sailed through the in goal area and we scrummed on their 22m line. In the wanning minutes, Riki Nakamura scored to make the final margin 17-0. A bit of redemption from the lackluster December performance against the Cru.
